New Baby. (from Poncho) Caution: Lots Of Pictures

Recommended Posts

OK, so I got my glass stem in from Poncho.

First of let me just give you a little background on me. I have 4 hookahs now, 2 KM's a pear and a Exotica, a chinese hookah i keep in the car and got for free, and now the all glass hookah from Poncho. I use only Tangiers when its me packing the bowl and hookah and as of now I'm using Hookah John's CH quick lites.

So now onto the show. From my knowledge smoking KM's this thing smoke just as well as any KM i've ever smoked out of. It's very smooth with large clouds. I have no complaints when it comes to the smoke-ability of Poncho's stem.

I'll start with a picture of each component.

1) Stem style A (top portion of the stem)

2) Stem style E (bottom portion of the stem)

3) The Heart

4) The Downsteam

5)The Bowl and Ash Catcher

6) The Bowl Diameter (with my hand with reference to size. Its a perfect solo bowl along the size of a mini or 1 coal phunnel)

7)All the components piece apart

8) Hookah 1 stem in height ( Stands about 28-30" tall vase to bowl Vase is a KM replacement and hose is a Narbish from HookahJohn)

9) Hookah Full size (It stands 43" tall from bottom of the vase to the top of a small Tangier's phunnel bowl)

10) Close up of the Heart full of smoke (awesome! haha)

I know whats next everyone is going to want a smoke picture. They will come I promise. The problem is that its been windy around here lately and so i have to wait to smoke inside at my friends house or wait for a calm day. Like I said earlier though its very comparable to the size of clouds i get out of my KM's. Only difference is I feel the smoke is smoother. IDK if that is because of how the difference in heat dissipipation between glass and metal or what but its smooth as glass.(pun intended)

Now for some constructive critisism.
As far as I know, or at least what i get out of this post, is im the first one to get thier glass stem from Poncho that is a member of the forum. These stems are new so of coarse little tweaks are going to have to be made.
Luckily most of my complaints are just cosmetic in nature so its more of a preforance thing.

1) The ash catcher is a bit on the small side. It works fine with the bowl i got from Poncho but when i switch over to a regular Tangiers Phunnel its just not big enough. I've talked to poncho about this and hes trying some new techniques to make these things bigger.

2) The ash catcher wobbles when the glass bowl isnt used as the way the tray stays sturdy is from the glass bowl touching and holding the tray firm.

3) The downstem is a bit short for my liking. This will change depending of the vase used. I am in the process of getting a bit longer of a downstem and this is strictly me being picky according to my tastes. It doesnt affect smoke-ability at all.

4) the hose port is a bit big for a standard hose connection is hose gasket (thats for you Eric). If Poncho wants to come in and talk about why this is he can but anyways it work just fine with a bowl gasket instead of the hose gasket.

Other than that I cannnot find any flaws in this stem. It's so beautiful that the first night I had it I think i spent more time looking at it then smoking out of it. I cant that for any other hookah that I've bought or seen. This thing is an ART piece.

The smoke going down the stem can be somewhat faint if you like to pull hard and fast. If you want to sit around and watch the smoke twirl around i find a "primer" slow pull allows for a fun show and a nice build up for a second pull with an extra large smoke cloud.

Ohh I almost forgot. Most importantly my girlfriend approves of this hookah. She is very picky when it comes to sitting around and smoking on a given day and she's been smoking like a champ every session for the whole duration. Thats a lot to say and a great compliment going out Poncho's way because if the girlfriend is happy then I am happy.

I want to end the post thanking Poncho. He is quite the glass blower and artist. This thing is just wonderful AND STURDY. I know a lot of people were worried about that in the stem thread.

Poncho will be getting more business from me for sure and I already have a friend that is seriously thinking about making a glass hookah thier first hookah.

Thanks Poncho!

$200.... I cant wait till mine is ready

Z2G you will not be let down by the pipe. I smoked my both tall and short. The single stem version smokes just as good as my double stem. Not any hotter or anything.

Like Z2G said the pipes are 200. Mine was 275 because I chose to go with the double stem style. It cost quite a bit but I am more than happy with it. Worth every penny!

Every piece individually bubble wrapped, a layer of convoluted foam underneath that, two layers onto, sealed in a box. That box sitting inside of another box with peanuts around it. Cant let them break in the mail!

Some pictures of how it smokes and ect would be nice. Anxious to see how it smokes.

Like I said in my original post. I failed to add smoking pictures because I am forced to smoke outside and its been very windy where I live. As soon as I can get it packed to take to my friends house where I can smoke inside or there's a nice calm day around here, I cant really get a picture to do the smoke clouds justice.

The first night on my initial bowl it was a dead night wind wise. I can tell you it smokes just as large and dense clouds as my KM's do. It's just as easy to pull as a KM. All around this hookah is just 100% class. Once I get smoking pictures up I think interest will rise double fold. I just hope my wonderful camera person, my girlfriend, can get some good cloud pictures. As I said before there still is not a way to do this hookah justice with photos. It's just that nice in real life.

I've been smoking out of it for a good 6 or 7 sessions. All with multiple coal rounds. If it looked nice but just wasn't up to par performance wise I wouldn't be using it as much as I have been and just moved back to the KM's to smoke out of.

Edit: I thought I would chime in on the packaging. I was very afraid of what UPS would do with my package. If you read poncho's post he packed the pieces first in bubble wrap. Then he placed the pieces in between a couple pieces of foam. After that he sealed the box and placed it in a larger box with package peanuts around the first box. It was packed so there was seriously no way, unless something penetrated through the box, to have the pieces damaged during shipping. Edited by Jabbles180
